I heard that Martha, over at Beyond the Literary Horizon, was going to do a Christmas themed blog party and, since I love Christmas, I quickly agreed to join. There are just 4 of us bloggers so you should have time to visit us all each day. And there is a giveaway. I hope you'll join us every-other-day for more Christmas fun! Let's get started!
Carols
I love Christmas carols. And Christmas songs in general. Some more than others. I try not to listen to them before Thanksgiving, but when I have to play something for church, or sing something in the choir . . . And sometimes I just can't seem to help singing them.
This carol is probably not a familiar one. I learned the chorus from one of my favorite Christmas books, but I'd never heard the tune until years ago when I looked it up. It just make me love the song even more.
1. Carol, but with gladness,
Not in songs of earth;
On the Saviour's birthday
Hallowed be our mirth;
While a thousand blessings
Fill our hearts with glee,
Christmas day we'll keep,
The Feast of Charity. Chorus
Chorus:
Carol, brothers, carol, carol joyfully,
Carol the good tidings, carol merrily;
And pray a gladsome Christmas
For all good Christian men.
Carol, brothers, carol, Christmas Day again.
2. At the merry table,
Think of those who've none,
The orphan and the widow
Hungry and alone.
Bountiful your offerings
To the alter bring;
Let the poor and needy
Christmas carols sing. Chorus
3. Listening angel music,
Discord sure must cease —
Who dare hate his brother
On this day of peace?
While the heavens are telling
To mankind good will,
Only love and kindness
Every bosom fill. Chorus
4. Let our hearts, responding
To the seraph band,
With this morning's sunshine
Bright in every land:
Word, and deed, and prayer
Speak the grateful sound,
Telling "Merry Christmas"
Al the World around. Chorus
Have you read this book?
What is one of your favorite Christmas carols?
Yay! I'm excited for the party. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've heard of this particular Christmas carol before, but I love the lyrics!
Thx for sharing!
Me too! :D Now I just need to head over and visit the other blogs.
ReplyDeleteI love the lyrics and the tune for this song. My sister-in-law and her sisters, and my sister and I sang this carol for church one Christmas. It's really pretty.
I love how so many carols have such rich and deep lyrics, even though sometimes we only sing the choruses!
ReplyDeleteYes! So many truths are packed into different carols and it's easy to overlook them.
ReplyDelete"The Birds' Christmas Carol" is one of my favorite Christmas books! I've never listened to the song, but I love the lyrics! (Going to listen to it right now. *wink*)
ReplyDeleteYes, that story is so sweet! Enjoy the song! :D
ReplyDeleteI love Christmas songs! I don't like the typical ones as much... I prefer the newer ones. But my favorite carols are What Child is this, O Holy Night and Mary did you know? !
ReplyDeleteSo many Christmas carols! I love those that you mentioned. I actually incorporated "O Holy Night" into one of my Christmas books. That was fun.
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming over and commenting, Autumn!
